Who are we?

Established in 1948, the Women's Board is currently comprised of 53 active members and 40 associate members.
Members hail from Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C.; and range in age from the late twenties to the early nineties.

What is our mission?

 

• Support the work of the American Heart Association to reduce disability and death from heart disease by raising funds for research.

• Sponsor the annual Affair of the Heart Luncheon and Fashion Show, including the planning and execution of all aspects of this signature fund-raising event.

• Fund substantial research grants at esteemed institutions like NIH, thanks to the 1,000+ event guests and generous support of corporations and foundations.

• Together with the AHA, raise awareness of cardiovascular health issues, especially among women.

Historical Note

The Women's Board event has hosted nearly every First Lady at The Affair of the Heart luncheon, including Bess Truman, Mamie Eisenhower, Lady Bird Johnson, Rosalind Carter, Nancy Reagan, Barbara Bush and Laura Bush.
